66-67 charger voltage limiter feed back

Go with the RTE limiter it's $75 and proven.
 
Ya I been looking at the feedback and that's the route im gonna take the rte one I found their eBay store working
 
Good choice. Looks like RTE's web site is down.
Gibber uses the RTE, have the voltage limiter and tach board in my car.
 
don't forget, you have to remove the OE limiter in the fuel gauge before putting the RTE unit on
 
I have made my own solid state limiter and have no experience with other types.

But, I believe the RTE device is custom designed for our instruments and is probably the way to go. If I'm correctly informed the RTE device will first apply full voltage for a few seconds before regulating down to 5 Volts, which should give a faster "wake up" time in our instruments, and sounds like a good thing.

Thats the way I read it as well, however, the propoganda for these devices goes on to say how when the original doo dad fails the gauges see intermittent full voltage spikes and that fries the doodads within the gauges themselves, eventually........so I guess Im not too sure why we would ever want to see full voltage spikes but Im just an engineer that keeps planes in the sky......

Our gauges work by heating up a piece of wire coiled around a strip of bimetal. The increasing heat generated by the current flowing thru the wire causes the bimetal strip to bend, and this is the pointer moving in the instrument.
By applying 12V for the first few moments, instead of the 5V, the heat up process is faster and the pointer starts moving earlier than with a pure 5V start.
A continous 12V will fry the wire coiled around the bimetal strip.
 
And that's why I have my small business restoring these clusters...:)
