I am the second caretaker (I don't think I own this..as much as it owns me) of a 1966 Coronet Station Wagon. Bought the car 10+ years ago from the estate of the original owner and has been stashed in the barn since. Got it out last summer to sell it....and that did not happen. So...putting it back to a driver, hopefully. Its an all original paint, Black-Plate, southern CA car (one quarter looks like something has been done), factory 9 passenger, 361 original. Last summer I started the process of cleaning it up and hopefully will have it on the road this summer. Yes....all you Hemi guys, it still has the 14x5.5 steel wheels. Which is why I have questions. I did convert the power drums to front disc, requiring a change now to bigger wheels. So, what will fit (assuming I would like to fill the wheel wells a bit more) and what makes the most sense? 15"? 17? Seems like 15" tires are getting tougher and tougher to find. Looking for some suggestions and pics. Was thinking American Racing Torque Thrust II's? Maybe?

Hello from Louisiana
A heads up on those torque thrust IIs
I have had two sets on my 2010 challenger (one warranty set)
They both started peeling and corroding within 18 months
Warranty doesn't start over on new set
I can't hardly stand looking at them now

A plymouth but pretty cool.
15X10 Steel wheels on the back, torque thrust D's on the front.

... and a Big Blower, cage and mechanical tach up on the dash, some flames...
You get the idea,

What disk brakes did you use?

You can get OEM setups that work with 14's.

If that's not an option, 80's 5th Avenues are still showing up in many u pull yards.

They came with 15x7 steel wheels, but your cover's won't fit.
...and for the record, the disk brakes on these cars do clear 14" wheels.

That wagon would look good with chrome Magnum 500 style wheels which would be period correct, and are available new in 15".

FYI the front disc brake conversion I installed on the Roadrunner said you had to have 15 inch wheels. But with the 14 inch road wheels there was plenty of clearance. It was the Right Stuff conversion kit.

I'm running the Duster rotors, but the original 14's will not clear the calipers. Close, but no cigar. I am told that there are SOME 14" wheels that will clear on this set-up, but who knows. I'm OK with not looking 100% stock and want a different look. I saved everything I took off in case the next caretaker wants to put it back to 100% original

I still say Magnum 500's.

I went with 15" 235's on the back and 15" 215's on the front. I don't believe you can get wider in the rear without a possible rubbing issue. Mounted them on Magnum 500's.
