66 Satellite Console Removal gear shift knob

Trying to remove the gearshift handle and felling quite stupid right now. Looks like the set screw is gone and the shift knob just spins on the cable. I can tell the cable is still attached because when I let loose of the shifter knob it spins back to the original position. I think the set screw is still attached I just cant find it. Any ideas?

If you keep spinning the bezel surrounding the shifter know it will unscrew if I am remembering correctly.

Console shift knob removal

I'm guessing the set screw is still in the knob, once that is removed the knob can be unscrewed and lifts off the shifter's shaft. If you can remove the set screw you may have to drill it out.

Got guys. It was just really stuck and took some twisting to break it loose. Thanks for the repllies.

I agree A383Wing. Sometimes it works out. Most if the time it doesnt.

What started with bad gagues has now led to a rewire which in turn has led to rust proofing the interior. But it is fun. This is my therapy. I have a thread on restoration showing the work so far.
