California car its whole life.
Here are the specs as he laid it out.
My main concern is the rusty areas.
He is asking $9500

1966 Plymouth Satellite

  • Original 273 cubic inch small block LA motor.

  • Torqueflite A904 transmission.

  • Power steering.

  • Baer front disc brake conversion with drilled and slotted rotors.

  • Ford 9" posi rear end, 3:55 ratio, rear drum brakes.

  • New 15 inch Cragar SS wheels. front 15x7 rear 15x8.

  • New BFG Radial T/A 225/60 15 front - 255/60 15 rear.

  • Rear air shocks, new front shocks, ball joints and tie rod ends.

  • New Edelbrock performer series 4 barrel carburetor.

  • Offenhauser aluminum intake manifold.

  • Factory 273 Commando valve covers and air cleaner.

  • Distributor converted to factory electronic ignition.

  • Dual exhaust with 24 inch glass packs and chrome exhaust tips.
  • Sun tachometer, steering column mounted.

  • 1967 GTX fuel cap installed.

This car was built in the Los Angeles assembly plant and originally sold in Hawthorne
Have the original Certi-card that came with car.
Car has the original California black and yellow licence plates. Car was originally red.
Motor and trans were both rebuilt, but not sure how many miles since rebuild.
Has new OEM front seat upholstery and pads installed.
Have new rear upholstery, did not install yet, trying to locate rear seat pads. New door armrest pads.
Dash is all original with factory AM radio, I installed an under dash mount for aftermarket Sony radio/CD player. Has 4 speakers, two under package tray and one in each door. Headliner and visors are new, glass is tinted and in excellent condition.
Manual door window regulators work smoothly. Previous owner removed all lettering and emblems and had car painted, I have everything that was removed.

Paint job was not very good but looks good at 30 feet.
Paint has a few small blisters under the paint above both rear wheel wells, has a small rust spot under left tail light in the bumper apron and has minor rust perforation in the driver floor foot well. These are typical for southern California coast vehicles and can easily be repaired.
Only body damage I found on car is a minor fender repair at the left tail light, can be seen from inside the trunk. Has dealer installed body side moldings that need to be removed when car is repainted, in my opinion.
Has new outside door handles and lock cylinders and keys matched to new ignition and trunk lock.
Has new heater core and all new belts and hoses.
New water pump.
Heater and fan controls work smoothly and correctly. All lighting, turn signals, brake lights work correctly, Speedometer and fuel and temp gauges work correctly.
Center console all original and complete. Engine and body wiring has not been altered or messed with.
The Ford rear end and the front disc brake conversion makes me think previous owner was maybe planning on a big block transplant. This car is an excellent daily driver as it is, starts on first turn and runs very smooth. I have owned the car for 9 years and has never failed to start and run well.

Just wanted some thoughts on the asking price and other than rust in the frame rails and cowl, what else to look for? Seems like it is priced right, but I don't know these older B bodies well

B body cars did not come with 4 barrel commando 273 motors.

It would have been a 2 bbl

the side molding near the bottom has obviously been added

the rust spot pictured in back of the rear bumper is in an area that is severely rust prone on these cars.

check that area carefully as well as the rear wheel arches, and the front frame horns and trans cross member

...and the area under the chrome trim where the roof C pillar meets the quarter panel as well as the underside of the dutchman panel between the deck lid and the rear window

imo, this is a pig in a poke car.
its dressed up but still has rust issues And its been repainted over the rust.
even the data tag has rust/rot under it..
as far as partswise, its got some decent stuff, the brake conversion and the 9' ford rear,
but..im not sure its worth close to what he wants for it.

also,YY1 pointed out some areas that you should Deffo look at from Inside the trunk if possible.
lotta people bitd just bondoed those rear window areas....

may i suggest you browse the Mopar Swap Shop group over on facebook?
theres Always some steals on wheels being listed there.

Lol I love that “pig in the poke car” hahaha that’s great!! Yeah I’ve been looking in the for sale forum and see some nice cars but none are close to me...and I’m not sure if shipping would break the budget or not and then there is not being able to see the car myself. I really want to see the car myself before i plunk down thousands of dollars

He stated in his add he put a new 4bbl carb on it. Not sure if he has the original carb or not. Only the super commandos had the factory 4bbl correct?

in my opinion, this site usually has members selling their cars for close to market value.
they know what they have, and are priced accordingly.

whereas,on the swap shop, people are just Ditching mopars left and right.
hardly anyone wants to do any work on the cars, they want perfection for cheap.
that is why i recced the swap shop to you,i think youll find a screaming deal on a car You like.
plus, you can limit your search areas too,so only locals popup for you.
hope this helps,cheers,Rob

I don't think the car is that bad, as long it checks out with no major rust elsewhere and you negotiate the price down a little. The leaking heater core may have contributed to the floor pan rust and it might only need a patch. These cars don't seem to rust consistently. What I mean by that is one part of the car could have severe rust but the rest is totally fine. Change the steering wheel and fix it up here and there and you could have a neat small block cruiser. When people advertise cars that are total wrecks sitting in a field for $10k (68-70 Chargers for example) then if you could get this one for say $8,500 I reckon it might be a decent buy. Just check the car THOROUGHLY.

I was able to check out the car and I decided to pass on this one it just wasn’t for me, the car looks way better in the pics than in person. I just feel I can find something they won’t need as much body work as this one with the rust issues.
Thank you everyone for your help

and I’m not sure if shipping would break the budget or not

Shipping is usually pretty do-able as long as a car runs, drives and doesn't include a bunch of baggage. Basket cases are a nightmare.

Good idea ^^^ Keep looking. You should be able to find something rust free in your area. Have you checked the local Craig's List ?
You can also look up "Mopars of Las Vegas" the local Mopar club if you weren't aware.

I’ve been searching craiglist and Facebook marketplace and auto trader classics. I’ll check out molars if las Vegas thank you.
