67 Charger center console, paint or dye?

I have a center console that’s a two piece fiberglass unit in my 67. It’s not original to the car and was told it probably came from a coronet. I am trying to fix a crack and then want to freshen it up because it looks a little faded in spots. It’s black, and I want to keep it that way. Anyone have experience if it’s better to paint or dye this and what would be the correct black to use?

I use SEMS Color Coat Landau Black, works great! You need an adhesion promoter first. And it has to be REALLY clean if you want it to come out right.

If you care about the texture in the console use dye. If you don't paint, it fills the texture more.

I’ve found I like SEM Satin Black a little better than the Landau Black. It’s a little less gloss. Vinyl and Plastic dye is a bit of a misnomer. Almost all products for coloring auto vinyl and plastic is some form or other of an elastomeric paint. If you prefer to spray by a gun, PPG caries a quality elastomeric paint line you can have mixed to match at a paint store. Elastomeric has flex properties, UV protection and is generally thinner so it doesn’t load up the grain pattern and hide it unless you just spray coat after coat. Dye is for leather although you could try it on vinyl, it probably would not give uniform results. And that’s only real leather surfaces - not the clear coated leathers in most new cars.
