Hello. I am fairly new to the car world and don’t know very much about diagnosing or solving electrical issues. So any help that you can give is greatly appreciated!

I am having an issue with my headlights were they will operate fine two or three times on a fresh battery but then they stop working.

My charging system is testing fine. I have found that I have constant power going to the headlight relays. Is this correct or could I possibly have a faulty switch or wrong wire?Because I think the relay is just overheating and shutting itself off… Do they do that?

There is also a constant click that comes from behind the dash on the left side of the steering wheel....it almost sounds like the turn signal indicator working but a lot slower. The clicks are spaced out about 5 seconds. Sounds like something is getting power then losing power, then getting it and losing it, and so on. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Brian

Hey there. Ghost here, I contacted a couple of headlight experts for you and asked them to check in here and help you out. Be looking for ODZking or CRACKEDBACK. Good luck. Ghostrider 67

Sounds as though there may be a dead ground issue somewhere in the circuit with the lights clicking off. There is a circuit breaker in the switch itself when it gets hot.

You might want to trace the route of all headlight wires, including the bulkkhead area for contact with a ground somewhere or another wire (melted insulation).

Check the plugs at the headlight bucket pass through points too. Bad connections anywhere in the system will generate resistance/heat.

The clicking you hear is likely the circuit breaker for the headlight motors. It's should be located behind the drivers side kick panel. From what you describe, think you have headlight motor problems. Could be electrical or mechanical. When the bucket is fully open or closed the limit switches work with the headlight motor relays (behind glove box ) to control volts to the motors. You should check every connection associated with the motors and switches, corrosion at connectors pins, crimp lugs, and corrosion creep under the wire insulation behind the crimps is a common problem. The motors do have internal brushes which could be defective. There is thermal protection within the motor that should open up to prevent burning up the windings, but if you are not activating the limit switches thats a problem. You need to speak with Topher, He's the expert on this topic. https://headlightmotorman.webs.com

, clean ground wire behind headlights, on driver's side core support, pass rear engine, and battery to engine. I also took apart and cleaned multi plug connector near battery, and on the fire wall.

Do the motors get smoking hot before they fail? Also, a bad cell in a battery can show itself after a load, but pass a old style carbon pile test

Thanks everyone for your help! I'm going to start looking into everything y'all recommended and hopefully get it figured out soon.

Thanks fellas for checking in and helping out. Ghost
