Hi. I have a new passenger side view mirror to install. This car didn't have one from factory. I need to know the location/distance from the door/hingeline to the front of the mirror base. I have seen pixs of it installed.I would appreciate any help!

I don't know, but if it is in fact in the same place, seems it would be hard to see through the vent window? I'm thinking further back to clear this problem, but stranger things have happened!

I am installing one on mine too. I plan on sitting in the driver's seat (when I get the interior done) and asking a friend to hold it and move it until I can see okay out of it. I'm guessing you will be looking at it through the vent window.

Thanks guys! I guess I should have clarified my intent of my original request though: I'm really hoping that someone who owns a 67, with a factory installed unit, will chime in.This resto is going to be as original as possible. I'm hoping that the factory location is in the clear of the post in it's view, somewhat. I just looked at it again from the opposite side of the drivers side, doesn't look very useful there. While asthetically pleasing at that location, it would definitely be better off functionally if behind the post.

I like the 66-67 location better than the 68-70. You don't have to turn your head away from the road as much to see the mirrors. It looks like they put a little thought into it, as it's tight betwen your line of sight and the vent window frame.

Mine had a two poster, but I made a manual DS from a remote and a trashed PS manual, and I have a better PS to put on as well. I measued the DS holes for the two styles and they are the same, just the more familliar remote capable one has one larger hole for the stud.

On the 66-67, you can also hang your arm out the window without the mirror interfering with your hand placement :)

Did mine this past spring, the drivers door id about 9" back and the passenger door it's about 11" back.
Tape up the with masking tape set the mirror on top in its approx position and tape over the mirror from the window to the door.
sit in the car and have a look.
once you find the right spot mark the holes and use a 1/8 drill bit and dont slip. let the screw enlarge the hole as you turn it in then remove it and paint the holes.
wait a bit for the paint to dry and oil the screw and re-install the mirror.
