good morning, im in the process of a restoration on my gtx, i have a lot of chrome that needs re-chroming.... my question is how do i dis-assemble the non-console chrome shifter so the chromer can do his thing. i obviously removed the black plastic knob and there appears to be an allen screw in there, i can see threads but cant seem to get a allen key on it, maybe its missing? any help or diagrams are welcome... thanks and merry christmas

That is a GREAT question
I just sold my 67 GTX (Auto-console car)
Sorry, I do NOT know
Hopefully someone will help

im interested in taking the shifter shaft apart so i can rechrome it.. i think its called the reverse lock-out that has to be seperated , i hear that there is a cable in there that i have to disconnect also, anyone with a diagram?

Here's a shot out of a service manual.

I don't know how its done. My dad took his cable out & it broke. I don't know how he fixed it, I wasn't there. All I remember is that he said it was a pain in the ***

thanks guys, hey x-man i heard that it was a real pain to re-install that cable too. i called brewers and the nice gentleman told me that if i get it rechromed he would reassemble it for me. im sure im not the only onr that needed a shifter rechromed.
