I used the lip off of a wrecked front wheel well & reshaped it a bit with a broom handle.WP_20140315_006.jpg

to fix the wheel lips i just cut the rusted part out and shape a piece of 18 gauge steel to fit and weld it in. i have to do it to my 70 rr but have done it before on a few other cars. turns out looking really good after.

Four door cars don't rust there nearly as bad, mostly not at all.

Most often there's enough metal between the door gap and the lip to fix what's bad.

I used yearone for mine, I first bought one from an off brand and it sucked, the measurements were all off..

There are two commercially available.

One SUCKS.

One is fair.

Four door cars are still in junk yards (somewhere) and they don't rust there.

I was wondering how the inner wheel tub connects to the the outer quarter panel,The rust has eaten both inner and outer on both sides of my car so I don,t know how to make my inner piece. Are there some tabs sticking out abit to place a plug weld ?

There is a lip, I believe it was originally spot welded, yes there's room to plug weld. Fabricating the lip from the same piece of metal that forms the contour on the outer fender adds a level of skill and tools I've not attempted.

It's not a hard as it looks. My first attempt. Though it's a 64 you get the idea.

I,ve been praticing on some scrap metal but the problem I,m having is as I get my bulge and curves hammered out the metal is pulling up on me from shrinking as I hammer and the lip is curling away from me.

The first pic of a 1/4 panel I bought for my 66. I was able to make the arch work, but had to buy the AMD lower rear section. The body line on the full lower one (one in pic above) was wayyyy off. Like 3 inches to low in the back and finally was matched to the OE at the front of the arch. I ended up straightening the body crease, and rebending it in a break and using the AMD piece for the rear.

I'm not Google enough to make the lip and outer shape in one piece. I made them out of multiple pieces anD welded them together.
