Having trouble getting off trim off headrest for replacement. It is glued on good! Any tips? Thought about heat put afraid of ruining headrest. Thanks

Forget heat, it will take the pattern out of the vinyl or even melt holes in it. maybe soak in Goof-off or something like that.

The vinyl on a headrest is amazingly tough, the foam underneath, not so much. I have a white interior in my 300 and a previous owner thought having black headrests would be the bomb so he painted them.

I hit them with everything from lacquer thinner to acetone. Took the paint right off and never hurt the vinyl. The plastric trim would not budge no matter what magic elixir I tried. Goof Off, Goo Gone, 3M adhesive remover, wax and grease remover, WD40, you name it, none of them seemed to affect the adhesive one whit.

A lot of patience working with a plastic trim removal tool won the day. They seem to be stuck the worst where the ends meet and do not, under any circumstances, get all pissy, try to rush it and end up tearing the vinyl. Just step away, have a beer and have a go at it later, you'll get them off.

Eventually.

I've seen a lot of headrests at swap meets with the trim missing so getting it off without screwing the vinyl is possible. As previously said, patience will be key.

Finally got the trim off, it looks like someone had reglued these at one point. There was defiantly 2 different glues on these.
