Hey yall,
Picked up a 68 383 Charger last week for restoration and am doing the requisite groundwork hunting down new parts. Trunk pan is completely shot and holes in the front but otherwise it's a complete car.

That said, in searching for a full replacement pan for the trunk, I came across two part numbers (I think on Sherman's site). One said '68-70' and the other said 'Early 68'.

My question is: How do I know which one I need? Does this have anything to do with gas tank size on the later cars?

Thanks in advance for helping me on my first post, looking forward to many more :)

I don't see why there would be any difference between "early" 68 and the rest of the year. Between 67 and 68 is a huge difference though...Hmmm I've never heard of such a thing. Anyone else wanna chime in?

I know over at Auto Metal direct there is no such thing as "early" '68. Myself I would go with their sheetmetal before Shermans..

Good luck to ya on your project and welcome to the site.

X2 Prop! I can't think of one reason that there would be any differences from early `68 to later and there was only one size gas tank. If by some chance Ma Mopar made a slight change in the trunkfloor, there was a good reason for it and noone is ever going to repop the obsolete piece.

Congrats on the project! Yeah, there is no such thing as an early pan. If you look I believe there is no hole for the fuel filler pipe on the Early pan while there is one on the standard. The early pan is also known as a Roadrunner, satellite, or anything else with a rear or side fill gas tank.

It's probably a very slight difference in the panels. I always use AMD metal. AMD's stuff is good but even they do not always offer both versions of a certain panel. Take for example their one piece passenger compartment floor panel. They sell the '66-mid '69 panel. The late '69-'70 panel is slightly different but most people do not know the difference and it isn't important enough to worry with.

Your best bet would be to call Sherman & Associates and get them to explain the differences in the panels and then you can decide if it's something you'll want. If you give them thebuild date of your car they should be able to help.
