68 b-body gas tank

What grounds the sending unit on the car/tank? My gas gauge was working...started reading low....then quit altogether. Is there some sort of strap across the sender to the fuel line?

Yep, 5wndwcpe hit the nail on the head. If that thing breaks (common) the sending unit goes bonkers.

Mine must have fallen off. I figure it was getting loose, as the fuel level kept getting lower, then...........nothing. I remember older cars of mine having those, and they'd rust and become useless. Thanks for concurring with my memories. I've had so many racecars over the last 20 years, I hadn't seen a correct factory setup for some time.

The thing is.........there's no real reason to believe the fuel supply tube is grounded, either LOL. Ask yourself, "how is it grounded?"

True, even shittier connections. If 100% factory appearance is of no concern, do what I do.

I solder a piece of 14ga. wire directly to the sending unit and solder a ring terminal on the other end. Clean off a little section of the shock crossmember, mount the terminal with a self tapping screw and paint over it.

If the lock ring is metal to metal on the tank and sender, and the tank is metal to metal on the straps and J-bolts to the body, and the body is grounded.............why do you need a ground strap? We were laughing about this.

Normally I think there is rubber strips / insulators between the straps and the tank.
