Hello

I am in the process of restoring the half horn ring on my charger. It will be completely re-chromed.

I'm just wondering if it was completely bright chrome plated or if some parts were matte or brushed. I have seen in a book that this was probably brushed, but I do not know if that is correct.

Maybe one of you knows more.

Greetings from Germany
Yannik

The '68 horn rings had a matte finish, due to a Govt regulation limiting reflective surfaces on '68 cars.
Germany: always wanted to visit; paternal side of the family came from Affalterbach.

From what I've seen and read, some either had the all matte/brushed finish or all chrome.
I'm guessing some of the earlier models that slipped through the cracks before the gov't mandates would have had the shiny chrome and the later ones would have been the matte/brushed.
Here's two different ones by the same guy and the same part # that have the different finishes
I'd find the best looking area on your ring to go by and do the whole thing in that.
Will probably end up getting mine re-chromed as well later down the road if I don't opt for getting a 3 spoke rallye wheel instead.

Thank you for your answer,

I think i will do mine all chrome. Hopefully I can still see while driving and the sun is shining.

Thank you,

i think I will do the all chrome finish, but I will talk to my dad and ask him what he wants.
