68 charger 440 conversion joint . Is it safe?

Yes it is. Most of the time some cars have them and the owner does not know it. They have been used for 30 plus years with no known problems. Same question was asked on another site.

I've run one in my 500" stroker with a 4 speed for years. Never had an issue. The only time you will see issues is drag racing with slicks when you have hard starts with full traction. Anything on street tires and pavement is fine and won't ever be an issue.

Allows joining of a driveshaft and yoke that each use a different u-joint type. One pair of u-joint trunnions are one size/type and the other pair are another u- joint size/type.

Not a problem. I have used them in several cars over the years.

The diameter difference in the caps are mostly what is different. The important thing is
if you want strength, get a cross with NO grease fitting. They are solid, and not cross-drilled.
You have to take them out to grease them periodically.

I think a Moog 340 part # sticks in my head for the combo joint.

Sort of like a cardone joint?

It is just a u-joint. Some people just don't get it. There are many u-joints in many applications that have one half fit a shaft and the other half fit the yoke. One could call all those conversion joints. It is no different in the mopar world.

It’s more than the cap size, it’s the width also.
7260 2 1/8”
7290 2 5/8”

here are some part numbers

It's just like a regular U joint accept one side of the cross is 7260 size & the other side is 7290 size allowing a big yoke drive shaft to run a small yoke axle or the other way around..
