hey guys.

anyone ever put a 68 floor shifter (the chrome button on top style) in a 71 that has the slapstick t handle? my t handle is cracking and has come off while driving twice now. i appreciate the look of the 68 shifter much more than the simple black t handle. but do these match up? can it be made to fit easily? am i wasting my time and should just go get a reproductions T handle or a Zgate from autozone? what do you gurus think?
your help is greatly appreciated.

Well, I'd have to vote for keeping the T-handle, but it's not my car.

Eh it just doesn’t have the right feel. Probably my only complaint about the car is that the shifter feels like a plastics toy. The 68 style is sturdy and sleek

Should work, so long as what I have are the same prnd21’s as you have. Shifter slips right through the round opening. Will also fit the rectangular one with excess play

They sure look the same! Only difference I can tell is mine says “slap stick” below the “1”. that’s super exciting! Thank you! I have a friend Willing to part with one but I didn’t want to disappoint myself when it didn’t work haha

I started second guessing and had to brave the 4 degrees to double check that it really did say slap stik haha

70/71 and late 74 use the same mechanism but with a ball type handle that it MUCH less prone to cracking.

I personally LOVE a ratchet shifter from the factory.

If the early handle attaches to the later ratchet mechanism, I'd go for it.
