68 coolant temp guage problem

cant get my coolant guage to work, if i test at the sender on the engine with a test light it flashes , and then the guage will work for the rest of the day , let it sit and it doesnt work again, test wire at teh sender with sender unhooked and it works again?

My guess would be the connection at the sender-look for the easy fix first.

Have you replaced the sensor yet?

sensors good and checked wiring from firewall to sender both are good
, could it be the 5 volt reducer on the back of the cluster?

Still can be a bad sender. Or the limiter can be bad too. If you replace the limiter get the solid state type.

well if check it now it no longer pulses the test light at the connector to the sensor, if i probe the back of the guage it will work for a bit, but what i do notice is when the coolant temp guage works the gas guage will read higher than when it does when the temp isnt working, its like atleast 1/4 tank out
where can i get one of those modules?
