This 1968 Plymouth GTX 440/375 4-Speed Convertible is a numbers-matching 103.5k mile example which was sold new in Canada. The car came to the US in 1987, and was restored in 2003. The car was kept in dry storage for a period following the restoration after the owner passed away. Since being imported to the US the car has resided in the states of Idaho, Utah, Arizona, and now Washington indicating each owner sought this car out. Contact was made with each of these owners, other than the one from Utah (now deceased) to obtain detailed history information. The seller has owned this GTX for over two years, and has been driven it regularly in that time. Actual production numbers indicate that 375 total GTX 4-Speed convertibles were made for 1968, and GTX convertibles were only available from ’67-’69 (none in 70). This GTX has been featured in the May 2015 issue of Mopar Collector’s Guide Magazine, and is sold with a clean Washington State title in the seller’s name.

This GTX has been repainted in its original Bright Red (PP1) to match the factory option list on the fender tag. Outwardly the car has been slightly modified from its original configuration with white side stripes and a white vinyl top to match the interior. Of the GTXs shipped to Canada, 87 were convertibles, a number which is confirmed by a letter the seller has from Chrysler of Canada. Given a total of 21 4-Speed GTXs sold in Canada for ’68, the seller estimates that perhaps ten or fewer were 4-Speed GTX Convertibles.

Some minor alterations from stock are present in the cabin, including speakers installed in the rear side panels and dual speakers in the dash. An original three-spoke steering wheel with horn ring is included with the sale in addition to the 3-spoke simulated wood grain with horn button currently fitted that is an optional accessory. The original AM radio is still in place, though the seller has modified it with external outputs and FM capability. The instrument panel includes the 150 MPH speedometer and fully functional tachometer. All interior features work correctly.

The 440CI V8 is original to the car, and is mechanically stock apart from an Edelbrock carburetor fitted by the seller. The previous owner replaced the car’s main wiring harness, and the seller has fitted a new correct Accurate exhaust system, four new Bilstein shocks, the Antique OEM replacement battery, and new BF Goodrich 70 series redline radial tires. The seller has used the car for some longer trips, including forays into Canada to car shows from their home in Washington State with no issues.

The engine (behind the intake manifold) and transmission’s (middle) data pads show 8G169306, which matches the last eight digits of the car’s serial number. The radiator core support and trunk lip metal have matching numbers to the shipping order number A05932 on the fender tag making this car completely numbers matching.

A previous owner had the underside and the trunk of the car undercoated prior to its arrival in the US, including the fuel tank. The seller’s immediate predecessor had the fuel tank replaced in 2014 to eliminate the undercoating there. Additional under-body photos are included in the listing, and the seller will include thirty detailed photos of the restoration in a photo album with the sale. Also upgraded were front disk brakes that have been added.
