Here is the tag for a car that i am interested in buying.Anyone know what colour this might be.
The car colour looks like a lighter curious yellow looking paint. What do you think.

Not sure. The only thing I could think would be someone order 999 as the lighter 1965-1967 Daffodil yellow (81515) instead of the 1968-1970 Sunfire yellow (81574). Can't really tell which yellow it is by the pic. This is merely speculation. Never seen a 999 yellow before. Cool find though. Can't wait to see what you find out.

Did some research and the car came with 355 gears and on the top line under the Y is code 9 Special order. Green bench.

I thought I read somewhere that 999 is a Special Order paint

it was the code that designated special paint yes.
however, you could have the car painted Any color from any make or manufacturer under the sun back then, and it would still be code 999.
the only way to Prove the car was coded for whatever the paint really is,is to find the broadcast/build sheet.

code 999 was used mostly for police car and state fleets.

It's on the fender tag!
yes..its coded 999,special order paint.
but that tag will Not tell you what Color it is.
only the buildsheet will have that info....
if im wrong,please correct me.

example,if he buys this car,and restores it,
he has no way to prove that it was this color originally other than pics.
common sense says of course its this color,
but a Buyer might want documentation,
and that would also help sell the car.

if you want to look at other special order paint cars,
look up the omaha orange roadrunners for 68? i think.

Another "common" 999 paint color around 1968 is "corporate" (petty) blue.

IIRC even a color from a different car line within the Mopar brand would still code as 999, even if it had a code in the line it was offered in.

One of the coolest 999 cars I've seen was a 74 360 Cuda, still wearing it's original, although badly faded In-Violet/Plum Crazy paint.

Maybe go through a paint chip book for all makes 67-68. Most likely will find the culprit. Someone probably saw another car in that color and liked.
