Hey guys I'm getting ready to start on the body of my Bee and Im thinking of doing skins instead of whole quarters on the back as the rust is limited to the typical bottom and over the wheel arch. My question is do the skins break over the body line across the top or do the follow it? I cant tell from any of the pictures as they just show it from the side. And I was looking at Goodmarks, any good? The cost is just so much more affordable than whole quarters. Thanks, Wesley

They break over the top by about 2" or so. I would go AMD long before goodmark. Get a hold of Jeff with 521 Restorations, you'll get a FBBO discount at the least.

Why do a skin when you can put on a OEM style quarter and weld it at the factory seams.

haha yeah exactly! $$$$ is right. And thanks i was hoping they would break over the top. Thanks for the advice about 521 ill give em a call.

What are your plans for the paint and bodywork? Something you are tackling yourself or having someone else do it?

I'll do it all myself I've got pretty good experience just never done a whole skin. I have a good friend who owns a body shop so he's always close by to help. As far as the painting and everything else I do it myself

Ok. I realize a few hundred bucks per quarter seems like a lot more money, but the skins will take longer to install and will require some bodywork and blocking afterwards. More or less depending on how well the skins are welded. It is a bit different than a small patch panel.

I usually only opt for skins if the top side isn't that bad so we can keep the factory spot welds in the trunk jamb, door jambs, etc....

Yeah mine are fine along the top, it's just the lowers and over the wheel arch they're pretty rusty, they were caked in bondo years ago so it'd be easier to just go new than try to fix what's there. I haven't completely settled on skins yet but well see. Thanks for the advice though!
