$6800 AMERICAN MADE "car"

Well, I hope so. However, I remember the Chevy Volt was supposed to come in at 25k. The actual cost is closer to 90.
At least it looks kinda cool.

AH, I just read the last line in the article. It might actually have a chance. "no federal money is involved"

Go private equity!!!!

I had read about that, it should have mixed reactions. Some will love it some would not be caught dead in it. To small for my taste but I am glad to see it and the price tag on it. GM blew it with the price of the Volt, otherwise its a great commuter car.
I live in Prius central so maybe I'll see a few on the road sooner than later...LOL

Kind of reminds me of the Can-Am three wheel motorcycles I see around here all the time. I've never ridden one but the owners I've talked to love them. Hope this car/motorcycle is successful.

That 25 mph leisure car will give EV's a bad name...LOL... no safety rating? death trap

Looks like a cartoon, but could still be fun. Especially with a hemi! As for $90,000 Volts, I can buy a brand new one for $39,000 here in Canada. There are several on Craigslist. Back to the Elio Motors car...did they really think that people would flock to it in that colour? Maroon, or black and silver trim might have made it look more like they were serious about it.... -=Photon440=-

I guess we will soon see, it can't be as big of a marketing disaster as the subsidized horribly failed Govt. Motors VOLT...

LMAO!!

The Volt was/is a good idea it was/is the selling price that was/is the downfall. Its a nice car otherwise and a great car for its intended purpose.

Not like Chrysler ever got a bail out eh.... ?

How them grapes tasting?...LOL

Getting anyone in this country to change is like pulling teeth. EV's in the 90's scared the crap out of the oil companys enough to end it's life. They are the wave of the future and its getting closer everyday. If I could afford a Volt I would have one for the wife in a heartbeat. She commutes 65-70 miles per day. The new range on them is like 110 miles. Its perfect and really is a nice car. I'd drive it.

Here is a small list to refresh your memory

1st off I never said it wasn't a good car, I said it was a Marketing Disaster/Failure... I don't hate GM, I've owned a ton of them... To each their own I would NOT buy or drive one, maybe I would if it was given to me I would, but even then, I would probably just sell it, I live in the mountains & I know it would never get anywhere near the 75-110 miles per charge, it would be running on the gasoline generator most of the time anyway, I know a bunch of people that have EVU's they all hate them here, they don't do well... IMPO it's not a good idea for people that live anywhere "other than the flat lands or cities where you have a short commute on flat ground", also IMHO the price is the biggest issue, especially at well over $40k & all of us as tax payers, are paying for that GM Marketing failure/exparament... There is far more in subsidies to build that car, than what they can ever sell it for, it's a loss to GM & the Govt... It's not a good deal for anyone, Tax payers or buyers or the stupid Govt... That's my opinion & you are entitled to yours too... By the way, Last I saw, Chrysler Corp. has paid their Govt. Subsidized Loan Back Early & in Full with Interest too, they had a 21% sales increase this year also, GM is in trouble "still" & hasn't even come close to even paying back the subsidies/loan interest yet...

What type of fuel is used to produce the electricity to recharge these so called greeny cars?Hmmm

In 1980 when I lived in Minneapolis someone was building a three wheeler like this but it never caught on.Wish them luck in Louisiana.

I don't care if they are pedal cars as long as they are produced here.

I'm with ya... yep all parts & labor here, not just assembled here, like so many are now...

It looks like Great way to increase business for all the funeral parlours in america. That the problem you guys are having at the moment right, not enough people dying?

anyone remember the Ford "Think" or the Chrysler/GM "Gem" EV community cars, 2 & 4 seaters, from the mid-late 90's, they all had big tax incentives to own, that was the big sales pitch at the time, here in Calif. anyway, they were basically just bigger more expensive electric golf carts with removable doors seat belts & a real windshields, we had a bunch of them in Rancho Murieta area... The Ford "Thinks" were pretty nice, pretty quick too, pretty heavy for waht they were, but also had battery & electric motor problems too... Personally I would really like to see something 100% American made, not a bunch of parts from all over the world, for a "reasonable price", that appeals to the masses, that gets great mileage &/or be a Hybrid, that works like advertised, that will work in the mountains & not subsidized, built by a privately owned & opperated company or publicly owned/traded company even, that knows how to market, build & budget their products, that's for damn sure !!

I hope it sells like crazy! This is a good City car and it will put workers back in that plant. This is a good idea. The Color is Ugly as Hell by maybe they are looking to sell it to George Jetzen. Only people over 50 remember that cartoon. I am not sure if it looks more like a Turtle or flying turd torpedo. I hope it goes well.

6800.00?....that car will be 40 G's by the time its all said and done. thats one of them CAN-AM 3 wheeled motorcycles with a body on it. .....and those are 30 G's !

I hope it works out but it wouldn't be one i would want, size way to small for my likes, not really liking the looks of it but I hope they found one that works and the price wont sky rocket, still parts for this with that kind of technology wouldn't be cheap i would think..
