Tonight I decided to take apart my rally dash to clean it up and get it ready to put back in the car. I had a question for members related to the speedometer. When I pulled this out I realized there’s a small clip which can be removed and it is possible to reset the mileage. What are your thoughts on resetting The speedo to zero after a restoration? I plan on keeping the car and not doing this to try to fool anyone.

You can pop that out and play with it to your hearts content. Takes awhile to figure out how to put it back where you want it... I put mine right back where it belonged...

Agree. There's only one reason for anyone to monkey with odometer readings (and by the way, it's
still against federal law to do so, regardless of "reasons") and this is specifically to "fool someone".
Whether one intends to profit from it or not, there's no other reason to do so.

I like the idea of "actual" milage. Especially if there are some parts that you don't completely redo - it then shows how well they survived. Example, all my interior - seats and door panels - have the odd scuff, tear or pulled thread but are in great shape for an 80k mile car. And if anyone ever points them out I'll just point to the odometer.

Mine was zeroed out when I bought it. Partial restoration, previous owner passed along with a lot of info. However, everything being rebuilt so it will basically be new again....not concerned.

And what about when you install a new cluster? Replace the speedo ? Go custom ?
