69 gtx air cleaner base

i have a 69 GTX . I was painting my air cleaner base and it has a notch cutout in the front about 5 inches wide and about 1 inch in.. I looked on Yearone.com and they have 2 types , one looks like it has the same notch,the other doesnt,smooth all around. Does anyone know if this is factory or did the previous owner cut it out to close the hood easier for the gasket.. thanks. Its a 440 4barrel

What base? oval Air grabber setup? If you have a notch in the base of the air grabber type then I bet someone cut it to clear the two speed wiper motor. All air grabber cars came with 3 speed wipers because the motor sits flat and clears the air cleaner base. Otherwise I see no reason to cut a notch in a standard base.
