Hi guys

Can someone tell me what colour 'air cleaner pie pan' (Y.O. name) ... or 'engine identification plate' (Mancini's name) was used on a 69 440 GTX?

Mancini reckons "the proper selection of engine ID plates is as follows: 1967-68 (red), 1969-71 (orange)"
http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/enidplat2.html

But Year One are a bit less specific and say "68-69 tend to have more red lids while 70-71 cars use more orange lids"
http://www.yearone.com/pco/1_0210/full.asp?page=285

Of course we bought ours from mancini so went with the orange for our 69 Sport Satellite w/440, but have since noticed more original cars have red i/d plates

Is there a definitive answer?

Thanks, Robert :icon_salut:

My 68 Road Runner came with a red plate and my buddies 70 RR had an orange one. My 69 GTS 340 Dart ID is red, or what's left of it. If 69 is a transition year then it might depend on the build date of your car or when the bulletin came down to the plant to stop using the red pans. I realize none of the cars I mentioned are GTX's but I'm thinking there was some consistency at the factory.

Thanks m-m, yes i noticed a 69 b-body car with a small block that had a red 'pan' when I was scouring the 'net last nite, so I presume the red/orange distinction was across the range - I only mentioned GTX cos i wanted to keep it relevant for a 440.
Maybe 69 was a transition year, as you say, but it does look like red was the predominant colour for 69 :icon_rolleyes:

Might drop mancini a line and ask what info they base their statement ("the proper selection of engine ID plates is as follows: 1967-68 (red), 1969-71 (orange)") on :thinker:

My 69 R/T has a build date of 1-2-69 from Los Angeles plant. It came with the red pie tin. From what I've seen they used up the red ones and then switched over to orange and it varies widely as to when it happened. If it were mine (I'm talking 440's here) and the build date was late Feb or early March, I'd go orange.
