I am restoring a 69 GTX. Just got painted and aligned the doors prior to weather strip installation. Installed Soft Seal weather strip on driver door. Now the door wont come close to shutting all the way. Nothing seems to be binding.

I moved door striker all the way to the back and still door looks like it is partially opened--when shut.

Should the doors shut fairly close to how they were aligned before the seal was added?:angryfire:

Thanks! Jeff

The back door on my house wouldn't shut after I added weatherstripping either. Give it some time, it should start to compress a little and fit better.

Rub some Vaseline on the Sort Seal rubber, and close the door for a few days. Then wipe off the excess, and the door should fit better, and close nicely. Worked on my car.

I did this too, and after several weeks they closed fine.

If the door was aligned before adding the weather strip, I should not have to unbolt the door in the hinge area and monkey with that??

No. There should not be a need to realign the door. Just apply the Vaseline, and let it soften the rubber some.

The new weather stripping is a tad thicker than the oem stuff, so most doors tend not to shut properly. Do as mentioned in the above posts and you'll be fine.

I thought that softness was their big selling point to make it where the door closes easily like new. It makes me question their advertising.

Like the same way that this is not for sticking Gorilla's together;

I applied the Vaseline last evening. It made a difference right away. Doesn't help that it got into the upper 30's here in Minny last night. Door seal package was dated 2008..so it sat in my closet for 6 years..how time flies...I suppose that may have caused some stiffness.

Left door was much worse than right door.

Thanks again!
