69 GTX vs drunken bodyman

Here is the only Plymouth I have left in the collection.
Originally it was a light blue metallic white top white/blue interior
with tach A/C and power windows column shift with buckets

this is what a body guy with a drinking problem did to a very clean
car. It started with removing a ton of bondo expecting
some body damage but turned out that someone had
tried to form wheel flares prior to the bitchin orange paint job.
once that was all removed it should have been only about
4 inches of the lower quarters butt this is what happened. :angryfire:
( note all this was done under the previous owners watch)

I have decided to ready it for sale butt cant decide if
I should go to the brain damage of trying to repair it first...
remove the hand made pieces and leave it for the new owner
or leave it as is.
what do you guys think?

As bad as it looks i would probably leave it for the next person to clean up. But i inderstand why you would be tempted to remove that mess.
 
If you are selling it you have to decide, Will the sale price reflect the amount of work required? Yes i would hate to leave that but maybe the next guy could do it himself...
 
No one would pay top dollar for a car, even a nicely optioned one such as this, with the quarters in this condition. so it is clear the price would reflect the repair work if I did not do it before hand.
in reality I don't see that happening
If I'm going to install a set of quarters any time soon its gonna be on my 68 charger:headbang:

Its sad. the car is very rust free no floors or frame very little trunk work. when I put in the rear window the channel was only rotted in two spots, each about a 1/2 in. long and at the top butt it is what it is.

It's picture day for the interior engine and frame so I will post some more

Thats kind of what i was saying. It would cost good money to fix the quarters. Would the sale price after repairs cover your time and money. If not give us a fair price and see what happens. Ive seen so many cars for sale for say 6K and the seller says but it would bring 40K restored. Not realizing it would take 35-40K to restore. Sounds like youre not one of those guys. We like pics too. (even 68 chargers hint hint)
 
I think i would be tempted into keeping it. Are you saying a full grown man who drives a car and has a job and everything did this! The X in GTX wouldn't even sit flat because of those "flares".. WOW unreal.. Nice 68 Charger!
 
IMO,if you are going to sell it i would leave it like it is and explain to the next buyer what the previous owner tried to do.With the good floors and frame,it should still be a good resto for whoever buys it for whatever price you sell it for.

once the flares had been sanded off the car looked great. why all that was cut out is beyond me.

Drunken bodymen? Surely you jest! (20 years in the autobody field). I had a total stoner working for me who couldn't be trusted with the most basic of repairs..... until a 53 Packard came in with fender damage. Stoner was up so he got it. And he METAL FINISHED the fender!!!!!! Unbelievable! The best work I had ever seen!
I can't comprehend why such a thing was done and not completed.
What you do with the car depends on your goals. If you are looking to get rid of it quick, then by all means leave it as-is and give a good explanation.
If you are looking to maximize your investment, consider having the quarters reworked and painted.
 
If you keep it I would do complete quarters it would be easiest in the long run....
 
That's quite a mess, but nothing tells the story of a car to a prospective buyer better than having him see it first hand. However it may be a hard sell as is.
 
Kinda put together like Joan Rivers face back there........

Nothing a set of quarter skins couldn't fix.
 
I removed the drivers side piece and cleaned it up a bit

Believe it or not it looks better.
I also added some seats and headrests to the mix try to help it out some

Ill post a few pics tonight when I get home.

I tried to load more butt it aint workin to well and I don't have a 12 year old of my own to help me figure it out.
I'll post a link to the photo gallery and you can see them all as soon as I can

Though in reality it isn't to bad it still has wheelhouses :icon_biggrin:

Thanks, I was just curious is all the 68 Chargers are really cool to me, About 5 years ago i almost had one but it just didn't work out, Bad thing about it is the guy who owned it him and i were good friends back in the day and it was all original and in great shape except a burnt valve. He died and his brother decided he was keeping it. Whatever way you go with this GTX i wish you luck, id love to do it myself but right now is not a good time, I wont give my search up for the one im after.. someday! Sorry, didn't see this until now, and your right, it is a shame..
