Looking to find out the value of a good 18 spline 4-speed out of a 69 b-body?Just wondering if im getting hosed or not?Thanks in advance

If it is in good condition (gears and syncro) I believe the going rate is $1000-1500.
 
I have a 23 spline trans i was going to use at one time, When i was looking for a rebuild kit for it i went to a couple sites and just led me to places where rebuilt ones were sold and i seen a couple 16 splines for sale for a little over $1600.. I don't know if there were anything different about them but just thought id mention it.. Expensive they are for a good one though.
 
68GTX4speed, Yours sounds like one that you turn into the 18 Hemi one, something i could do to mine, i don't know if i would do that if i needed it, i think if i was looking/wanting a 18 spline i would rather buy one from someone here for the price, $1000-$1500 price range, by the time i bought this one link showed, payed the shipping, and did the work i could have the real one built for the application im using.. Just my 2 cents, seems one in good shape in the price range showed, cheaper way to go is all.. If you couldn't find one, this is a great choice to have.
 
I think they fit in both 18 and 23 splines boxes, 18 splines boxes are stronger than the 23 splines so if the gears will hold you still risk to crack the house, those are made overseas so I guess I talk to Zumbrota bearing and gear first.
 
The Zumbrota gear sets are made in China or Korea and I would carefully measure all the important features before assembling. I put the Passon OD gear set in my tranny and it wasn't cheap but the parts are very well made.

You can put the 18 spline gears into a 23 spline case but you will have the smaller 307 bearing, so technically not as strong as the real deal. Or if you use a later case that already uses the 308 bearings then you're in.

The dynamic load rating difference between the two bearings is about 1600 lbf (pound force) and I'm sure that's in the radial direction. I don't see a rating in the thrust direction.

Even so, a 23 spline will hold up well for a street diver.
 
i paid 1100 for a real nice 18 spline with a 69 hemi runner vin on the side of it
about 2 years ago.
it had been totally gone thru and is ready to go.
if someone was to offer me 1500, i would still keep it....
and no it is not for sale....
 
My 70 six pack came with a 23-spline tranny which I sold when I put in my Tremec. Had the car moved on a rollback a year ago and the driver said he had an old mopar tranny. It was converted to a crash box and had a chrome side cover but it was an 18-spline. I paid $250 for it and stashed it in case I ever want to do a stock resto on my car. In the meantime, I just look at it and smile!

Got that one beat, bought a 69 Charger body one time sitting in the woods for 75.00. Give you three guess what was in the trunk, & the first two do not count, an 18-spline, still got it. Going to use it with the 75.00 Dana 60 4:10 I got with a 70 Charger shell one year. I am on the list for a Passon overdrive set. Had two 18s, sold one to my buddy for 700.00, the end shaft was cut off a little.
