Hey guys,
I've got a few questions for you guys with 69'. I'm leaning towards getting one of the A12 lift off hoods for my clone. So my first questions is,
Would you go with the bolt on type or the lift off? I'm thinking bolt on just because I'm not sure i want to always have to have someone help me get the hood on/off. (I know it's the correct way though) So I'm wondering if i get a bolt on one would it be hard to put pins in the front? Also with this hood do you lose alot of your view of the right side?
My other question is if i went with the normal air grabber hood, does anyone know how much cost there is to getting all the parts?
Last question do you perfer glass or steel hood? It's a long way from being a street machine but losing a few pounds isn't a bad thing :p
Btw, It is Plum crazy purple so I'm wondering how the flat black looks... do you think one would look better then the other on it?
Thank you,
~Nick

Edit: I just thought about this, I've heard alot of horror stories about getting hoods to fit so i'm wondering who would be the best place to order? While doing it on a college budget :(

Many people go to the A12 hood simply because it is much cheaper than the 383/Hemi hood when factoring in the cost of all the air grabber componants.

I have not noticed any vision problems with the hood.

You don't need any help taking the hood on or off. You simply grab it by the inside of the scoop and lift it off. It can eventually crack it and if you choose the lift off you will want to reinforce it for this reason.

Being a tribute type car I would opt for the hinged typed as the lift off is a pain in the *** and they have a tendence to be a problem with the wind and can "take off" on you causing damage. If I were going to go this way, I would simply attach the hood pins perminately to the hood so positioning is not a problem and still have the "look."

Thanks, Good to know, wasn't sure how high the scoop was. Who should i look into getting one from?

Depnds on your budget and needs.

There are several different companies that make them. The heaviest and most accurate to original is a Year One exclusive I believe. There are light race weight ones that will flap around so much at high speed you will think it will tear off. I currently have one of those on my Bee but also have an original one that will later be repaired and installed on the car when all it is repainted.

Well... The cheaper the better but obviously i don't want junk. If i go with hinged i don't want the underside to look like crap since everyone is going to see it. I found this one, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/68-69-Road-Runner-6-Pack-Lift-Off-Hood-/270700733797 But then i saw the pictures of the bottom... Is that how they all are going to look? I understand it's to reinforce the glass but kind of an eye sore. I guess painted it would look fine.

That is a lighter drag weight type hood. If you think that looks bad from the underside, wait until you see one of the factory originals.

Oh really... I'm sure it wouldn't be that bad as long as I get the bottom painted?
