I'm getting bored and need advise. Thinking about swaping out the 906 heads i have in a 69 roadrunner (440 auto) with new ones. Nothing wrong with the old ones. Just looking for a bit more power.

Is it worth doing or one of those "aint broke dont fix it " items? If worth doing, can you recommend a brand you have used and found reliable?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving
Steve

I went from mildly ported 906 heads on my 69 RR to max ported 915s. Used 2.14/1.81 valves. Also installed headers at the same time, and picked up 3/4 second in the 1/4 mile! Stealth heads would prob do just as well, maybe better.

And I am running a 451. So about the same size as yours.

Edelbrock makes very good high quality aluminum heads........best horsepower gain for the money spent......less weight also......just a bolt on........

Do you have a stock cam? If so then start with a cam change. I have seen unported iron heads on a 440 go low 12's in a B body. That was with high compression pistons to match the big cam and headers, but not much else. If you have stock compression then don't go overboard on the cam.

Yes, more info on existing combo and goals, please. Doing it just cuz you have money burning a hole in your pocket, you want something faster but same driveability, or...?

I personally don't like the 'stock cylinder heads are capable of ***' argument...'big cams' require compromises that are not worth only going low 12's in my opinion...

It's really not too hard to get into the 12's with a mild 'streetable' build.....but look at the whole package and not just one area. For example, the Eddy RPM heads are capable of supporting mid to high 10's with the right combination but, it probably won't be very streetable. But it also depends on what you want out of the car and how much you can put up with before you call it unstreetable. Being that I'm quickly becoming an old fart, I want AC on my cars and don't want the hassle of fouled plugs every 100 miles so I might not want that 10 second combination for a streeter. How bout a turbo or even some kind of an under hood blower? Those things can be pretty awesome once they are set up and tuned....and can go pretty quick and be very streetable.

Great information. Thank you all for responding. You have given me alot to think about!

My 66 Belvedere runs high 12's with slicks (low 13's on street tires) and there are absolutely no compromises. With a factory iron intake and 750 AFB too!

Got ported Eddy RPM's on my 512. For the price, can't beat'em IMO. Able to run pump gas on a higher compression as well. Good luck.
