I was wondering if the dash had two small speakers on factory 8 track cars? I just bought a 69 Roadrunner, and it has a hole on both sides of the dash. And if it is factory, where do I get new speakers and covers?
There would have been 3 speakers. Not sure where you would get replacements, maybe someone that modernizes these old systems to operate like new while retaining the stock look would be able to help you.
I don't know about the middle spot for speakers, but I do know you can get one from Year one that has a speaker pointing in both directions if you wanted more than the two on each side. About the only thing the PO of my car did right as I can see, is finding a pair as shallow as possible, and adapting a kind of spacer between the dash and the speaker grill. It was a pleasant surprise when I put the new system in and they worked rather well. The only other thing to keep in mind is the output of whatever radio unit you are putting in. typically they only have 4 output for speakers, 2 front and 2 back. but I'm sure there are some with many more outputs. Sorry, I don't know the brand and i'm sure if I ever want to replace them, I will have to take out the windshield as the phillips screws are really close to the glass.
