Guys,

Looking at this:

http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_d...m_medium=email&utm_campaign=KC0310_030510_S98

You may need to cut and paste.

Its a 69 RR convertible replica.

What I am asking about is the wheel and rocker trim on the side. Waht that stock on the convertibles? Was there an option code or fender tag that notes the trim or did the owner just put another car's trim on it?

Anybody know?

Thanks,
Randy

I don't know about the wheel trim but I can tell you I have an actual Roadrunner that has the rocker trim as an option so it is possible that a RR had this. From what I have heard for my year, only 14% of RRs had this option which is why I'm keeping it because I was going to fill the holes. If it is a replica I think the trims were a lot more common on Sattys which is why it might have it.

My R/T came with the Rocker molding and the Wheel Well trim.

Some times the information is hard to find regarding these things and you have to look at previous years and the current yeaqr to determine what was changed from one year to the next as well as what was standard. They showed what was new for the current year as opposed to the previous year for a new model but these things are in addition to what the previous model year had as standard.

Here are two links that you can see that the wide sill moulding as well as the wheel lip mouldings were standard on the 1969 Coronet R/T.

Ok, so if I read this right, he made a convertible Roadrunner out of a Coronet R/T but kept the trim packages on it? that's strange.

I guess what i am really asking is that is there a trim package for the 1969 Roadrunner that does the wheel and sill trim? Specifically, 1969, specifically, Roadrunner. Not the Coronet or the Satelite.

He admits its a replica, but if you are going to make a replica, why would you leave the wheel trim and sill trim on it as an obvious mistake?

Do you see what i am getting at?

Randy

Like I said before I have a '69 Roadrunner with the rocker trim from the factory. So it is possible that the Roadrunner could have the rocker trim. As far as the wheel well trim I have no idea.

Agent J has the wide rocker moldings, but I'm not sure there was wheel well moldings for a runner at all.

There are many names to hang on a car like this. Replic, clone, tribute,
look-a-like, etc. Typically when a car like this is done there are often left over parts from the donor car that are not totally correct for what they are trying to reproduce. My guess would be that the car started out as a Sport Sat. convert. that had these items on them originally. The optional wheel lip mouldings were not available on a 1969 Roadrunner. Not a big deal. people add options to cars that were not available to the model all the time.

If you are thinking of buying the car and they bother you, it will take about 1 minute with an electric screwdriver to remove them.

Not going to buy it, but I am doing a Resto-mod on my 69 RR and I liked the wheel moldings. I just don't want to do it and then listen to every half-cocked, moron tell me they are wrong and not be able to explain intelligently that I do know they are not stock and yes, I like how they look. I just wanted to make sure that there isn't some obscure model code option that existed for the RR I never heard of. It sounds like the rocker trim is a possible option but the wheel trim is not. That is all I needed.

Thanks guys,
Randy

This has been discussed at length on the A12 forum web site and it is generally accepted that they were NOT available for the RR, but they are often seen on restored cars. OTOH, they were standard on the Super Bee.

Boy, this strikes a chord with me. I have a '68 GTX that I want to put the upper belt line mouldings on and have resisted thus far because I absolutely know some pinhead is gonna tell me the car is a re-body because " only Sport Satellites came with that blah blah blah..and if was a real GTX blah blah blah."

I purchased a new 69 runner in sept 68, that had the rocker trim, but no wheel lip moldings.
