69 RR Convertible

For the convertible guys out there- I have a 69 RR convertible. Is there a trick to installing the snaps on the top cover? What's the best way to locate the snaps? Also, there is an additional piece that attaches to the plastic along the top of the back seat. It is black and has a piece of plastic that runs alon the outer edge with multiple snaps. What is that used for? Where does it snap into?

i would purchase the more expensive boot that just clips over and not get the cheap one with snaps that ruins your stainless trim with drilling holes
