69 RR Gas Gauge Doesn't Work

HELP!!! My gas gauge doesn't work, so here's what I know.
- I added a new ground at the sending unit that I know is good, still doesn't work
- with tank almost full: gauge reads just under the empty line, the sending unit reads 18.2 ohms at the tank, the wire at the tank reads 0 - 5 volts (cycles just as it should)
IDEAS??????

Remove the wire from the sending unit and ground it. Then check the gas gauge and it should read full. If it doesn't I think the gauge is bad.

I also went through this awhile ago on my 72 Demon and on the off chance it might be the same fix. I am not sure if it is the same design on the 69 but I snugged the nuts on the back of the gas gauge and I guess it made better contact on the printed board and she worked again.
I had taken the sender out a 73 Charger once that was just a complete piece of rust, makes ya wonder what crap is in bottom of some tanks.
