hey guys im saving up to get a six pack set up for the gtx and my question is can i use it on my stock 440 or does it have to be a RB (raised block)440 if that makes any sens? and if i can use it on the stock 440 do i need to do anything to it to make the sixpack work.

A 440 is an RB engine (identified by the ID pad to the right of the distributor).

A six pack will work on a stock engine, or should I say it won't be a disaster. They are pretty forgiving but require much tuning to make run really well.

SacRanchoCordoovaJune22,2013 017.jpgA friend with a 6 pak 'Cuda is always messing with the tune. That said, when it does kick in it scares the crap out of me. I check that my seatbelt is clicked in, and put my hands out on the dash. The waaaahhh of my 850 Demon 4 barrel can't compare. Scare factor. Nothing like it. That's good.

i've had them on my cars since 1970. they can be finicky but thru the years i've found the biggest problem to be the manifolds. the carbs are too lean on the idle circuits and main metering in the center carb, not a difficult fix. but, if the manifold is too wide or machined the wrong angles or even has holes in it, thats another more troublesome issue.

I put one on my stock 440 and it runs great. The trick is to know someone who can tune it. Luckily I do. :VB toast:

awesome thanks for all the great info and i have heard about the tuning issues but there is a little mopar shop a couple of hours away from where i live called sixpack performance and is most likely gunna be where i get my six pack set up from and i think he can get it tuned in for me.

just put 6 pack on mt 69 gtx. few things you have to do, three speed wiper. cleaner will not fit around two speed motor. kickdown linkage wiil be different if using automatic. coil needs to be relocated. on mine i relocated fuel filter to in front of carbs easier to get to

in addition to this you of course need to get a 6 barrel intake manifold, reproduction ones are available at less cost than most oem originals. and u might wish to pick up a copy of the mopar 6 barrel/ six pack performance manual available at hastings and barnes and noble bookstores...
best wishes! ccd

Major50 beat me to what I was going to say.........also some throttle pressure linkage tweaking ( not twerking ) will be necessary. I bought all thread and bent my own.

I ran a 6pack on my 440 in my 68 charger with slightly over sized cam. Performed great. Never had to mess with it until it was time to rebuild carbs. This was twice in 18 years I owned it. Larger jets are usually needed on the center carb unless you like surging at highway speeds..

I now run a 6pack on my 340. Been in the car sense 2003 and only ever replaced a accelerator pump diaphragm. Just find someone who knows how to adjust it and not second guess the original engineering. ALSO if the mix screws in the front of the carbs have never been uncapped DONT mess with them. This is where many people go wrong. Unless you have a flow bench you just wild @ss guessing.

Nothing like the the feel when an extra 700cfm turns on
