Quick question and sorry if this is a repost.

were there different outer seals for 1966 7 1/4 rear ends on belvederes?

I have two outer seals that are supposed to be correct for the axle but are noticeably different. One is a national 48058 seal, which I tried to install and found to be too small in diameter and one set of NOS chrysler ones numbered 2643464 that are quite a bit wider in overall diameter. Both have the exact same sized hole for the axle shaft. I will probably get around to trying the nos ones tomorrow.

basically, why are there different ones and how can I tell which seal goes with which axle ? (Both were sold as correct for a '66 belvedere with a 7 1/4 rear)

thanks

The new world has loads of errors, misprints, and just simply, erroneous information....
I have the old books which -- definitively have correct part #s -- and I can cross original
MOPAR #s to the aftermarket world....
I just sent an original Chrysler in the Chrysler box 2070113 PINION seal to NORWAY for a
1964 Plymouth Valiant -- he couldn't get the right one for a year!!!!!!!!!!
Call me -- Craig -- 516 - 485 - 1935... if you can call the U.S.A. for -- free -- eh?
(That "eh?" was for you!!)

Thanks eh!

i finally got the right one off of ebay it just meant no car for two weeks and a bunch of wasted time trying to find the right ones. I'm going to keep your number handy if that's okay with you. Up here in Canada we just don't have the same amount of access to parts you guys do down there. There just weren't as many cars sold here due to the smaller population, so not as many bits and pieces are still stocked.

Thanks a bunch
