I have a Carb that is rebuilt and like new for my 70 383 Super Bee. It works perfect except that it wants to stay on the last high idle setting. I can push the lever down with my finger and it idles just right, but as soon as I give it gas it goes back up. The choke flap is staying about 1/4 turn rather than all the way open. I do not see any adjustments for the choke. Any ideas?

Bend the choke pull off rod together some. That's why it has a 'U' bend in it. The vacuum dashpot pulls the choke blade open some at start up and this may be your tripping point.

Do you have a heat riser on the right exhaust manifold? Is the heat passage on the intake manifold heating up?From what you are saying the choke is not heating up.Remove the choke clip and unhook choke from carb and see if that cures your problem.

Choke works just doesn't go quite all the way. I will try brnding the rod. Thanks for the help

If you pull the carb off and look at the choke linkage on the passenger side, you'll find a spring that's wound up and sits in a "bowl" in the intake manifold. This has an adjustment on it and will most likely be your problem, as it controls how the choke automatically opens as the motor heats up. I just went through this on my car.

I have not had any time to mess with my car. Next time I work on it I will try this. Thanks

RShaips--maybe want to set -1- notch tight..Maybe need to reset for too-tight spring tension(and/or not enuf manifold heat)..

I got it to work fine. Just needed to squeeze the linkage a little to shorten it up and now it's good. Thanks
