just got my meats (325x50x15's) . And im almost ready to mock up this rear end , i had it shortened a bit. Going to use a coil over kit on the axle ,so i need to weld up a bar between the frame above the axle for the top coil mounts(kinda scared about this part ,cause im a newb ;/ ) this bar will determine my heights and placement of the rear-end obviously and i want it to be dead on. so anyone have advice on taking measurements to mock the rear up? do i want the rear dead ctr in the wheel well (as far as looking across the car, having the axle dead underneath the ctr of the well)?... im running these springs and this coil over

I would take it a little slower in this case, do you have the axels shortened and new wheels already? 4 link or ladder bars? Crossmember for them? Or are you planning on using leafsprings?

I would put the wheels in center, be careful checking at the point where the rockers meets the wheelhouse, it can be tight with big wheels.
If you put it to much back or forward you need a new propshaft.

So my advise is, make sure you now all the parts you need, you don´t have to buy them, just make a plan. Will you move the rearframe inward, does this means that you need a new fuelcell? Subframeconnectors?
Many questions and much to think of, I also have those plans since I will repair the trunk in my car, but I will probably just make it back to original.
It is a lot of work but they look great when it is ready!

First of all Swede, thx for the advice and i love your build . Was just looking at it the other day , im hoping that i can take most of this build on myself like you. Although i do plan on taking it to the body shop after i get it rolling just cause i don't trust my self with this rust repair, there lots of it.

So anyways here's a list and some pics of what i have already :
-axles shortened
-sub-frame connectors in
-coil over kit
-rod ends for ladder bars

looking under the car today figuring out where im going to need the top support for the coils, looks like im going to have to mount the coils on the inside of the axle, instead of toward the rear-end of the car. the spread form the ctr of the axle is 6'' to where the coil mounts. i imagine its going to look odd having them on the inside, but if it works then w/e. do u see anything wrong with doing that?
My plan on the gas tank is to get a fuel cell in the truck and pipe it to a retro charger cap on the drivers side of the body(love that look).

pics!

Hi, nice pics, they explain a lot. Two reason not to put the coilover in front is they will steal space from the ladderbars, where will you place them on the axle?
The other reason is the momentum, if you move them forward you need a stiffer spring due to the length is shorter between front eye of the ladderbar and the spring, you will also be careful not making the upper crossbar to week, it is a lot of force that will tranfer to it, in normal case the weight is resting on the leafsprings but now you will send it straight up in the coilovers. This area was not design for that from the beginning.

There could be some more reasons i don´t know about, perhaps someone else could fill in?

Looks nice with the cut up in the wheelhouse, wheels fits great, not so much rust either, keep us posted on updates!
Good luck!
