I just replaced the glass in my 70 Coronet wagon tailgate due to it being busted out when I bought the car and I'm having issues with the alignment.

With the glass in full up position, there is a 1/4" gap between the outer belt line seal and the glass that is pretty even across the tailgate opening. I replaced the belt line inner and outer seals when rebuilding the tailgate before installing the glass. I followed the manual instructions for install and adjustment, but I'm nowhere close to having this glass net up against the outer seal.

Is it possible there is another seal that attaches to the inner framework where the glass bolts to the metal plate that I'm missing? I didn't see any missing seals upon review of the manual, but figured I'd ask the question.

I'm afraid if I try and force the run channels inside the gate that far outboard it'll create an interference issue with the upper run channels in body opening. I didn't adjust the upper run channels as I presumed they were close before the original glass was broken and I'm able to run the window up and down without much issue.

If anyone has a similar wagon that can lend some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you any pictures, so I can see what your talking about.

Sorry for the delayed response guys, been out of town for a few days. Here's a couple pics that hopefully explain my issue.

If its anything like my 66 fury, there is a seal on the glass channel that butts up tight when you roll the window up, a big thick wad of rubber the length of the window.

Thanks R/T. Just so I'm clear, does this thick rubber seal get mounted between the glass and metal plate that's driven by the regulator? If so, that would make sense as it would close the gap from the inside under the belt line weather seal. Do you know if this is something that is reproduced or will I have to fabricate myself?

No way is this ever going to be reproduced ~ sold the car a few years ago, i replaced the glass after some punk with a pellet gun did a drive-by. The seal was attached to the glass channel, seems a seperate U-shaped rubber was inside the track receiving the glass, the gap opening seal was hollow Q-shaped the lenghy of the track. You can try NOS , but i would go with either finding a used one or maybe even making one with slitted black rubber hose.
