ok,now i know it takes 3 studs to insert into the back of the trap door.anyone know size and what it looks like.maybe a picture

Here is a couple of pictures. I need to get the hardware size though - they are fine thread Phillips screws. They screw through the hinge directly onto the hood scoop. They screw directly into the resin hole - there are no inserts in the scoop.

Is this what you are looking for? Do you need measurements between the holes?

Note that my screw head is all beat up from 43 years on the car - I had to carefully grind off the sides to grip it with vice-grips and get it off...

THANK YOU SO MUCH. if you dont mind tell me what size the screw . thanx randy

Hi Randy,

So I just used my Gage-It tool to figure out the specs of an original screw: It is a #10 Philips head screw, 24 threads per inch (coarse). It is 1/2 inch long and is self tapping (if you look carefully at my picture you will see the screw is tapered a little bit near the end). What is not seen in that picture is the slot near the end that helps it "cut" its way when first inserted.

Good luck!

thankyou hawk.you have been a tremendous help.randy

You had also asked about the other six screws on the side in a PM to me. These screws are the same specs as the hinge screws as far as size - all 9 screws are interchangeable.

The other question you asked is what the six screws on the side do. That is a great question that I cannot answer. On my car, they were screwed into the scoop but held nothing. Were they this way from the factory? I would not think so, because then Plymouth wouldn't have wasted the screws that do nothing.

My best guess is that there was a plate that covered up the rear part of the underside of the scoop. This is merely a guess, and I would love to hear from someone if they know what these screws were used for.

Mine had a molded rubber flaps on each side of the air grabber door, each with the three holes for the phillips head machine screws. They looked factory so I removed them carefully, restored the flap, cleaned them up & reused them. I didn`t take a picture at the time, but when I get back to the car, in storage, I will. Hope this helped.

Aha!

Mystery solved! Thanks TRAMO and 6pktgo for the details and the pictures. Another puzzle piece solved.

(Of course another part I need too, but hopefully the seals are not super expensive ;-)
