Need a little help guys.im putting my steering column back together that the previous owner had started. im puzzled because the very bottom black ring on the column on the inside and goes down to the dash is very loose and not attached to anything.and i cant find anything to attach it to.looks like two screw holes down past the edge of the dash on the column.i see nothing on the lower ring to attach.cant find a clear column diagram IMG_1807.jpg for 70b bod

Does the ring your talking about have 2 holes, one on each side of the column? A picture might help. I'm not sure if you're talking about the ring that attaches to the floor where the column goes through the firewall or if the ring you are talking about is part of the column between the steering wheel and the dash that is encased in plastic. There is also a molded plate that attaches to the column with four holes that sandwiches the column to the dash.

IMG_1911.jpgyes its the one thats about 6 inches from the steering wheel.that nearly touches the dash.i think im missing some type of sleeve that this slides over or inside of this piece or im missing a sleeve thats inside the column

Went out to the shop and got a 70 factory service manual and took some pictures. I also took some out of my 70-71 parts book. Hope they help you either way. If you want me to I can also email you the pictures. Matt

thanx matt.looks like im missing the inside tube at the top end of the column.i think its called the shift tube. not sure.you wouldnt have a stripped column for parts by any chance.thanx Randy

I may have a 68-69 column shift column for parts if you think it may work. I would guess it sould. I also have a friend that has parts from a 71 duster column shift auto column if you think that will work.
Matt

I think the shift tube are the same in 4spd and column shift autos. if its not much trouble to get it out or take a pic of it still in.i would appreciate it. [email protected] thansx Randy in lebanon

Did you get this figured out yet? Or are you still looking for pics of a complete column?
