I came to realize this is a complicated question....
It's one thing to figure out what will fit and another entirely to figure out WHAT IS AVAILABLE that will fit. When I was figuring out my wheel tire combo I made that mistake. I wish I had kept the theoretical "what WILL fit" info that I had because I spent a lot of time figuring that out but I quickly realized that it was useless info when I started shopping around for what was actually available in a wheel and tire that I actually liked. They are 2 different things entirely.
I run 17x9 Cragars on the back of mine and a 275 BFG tire and there's still a lot of room to play with on the inside between the tire and the leaf.
You could fit a 10" wheel. Possibly a bit wider. Just depends. Are you wanting a 15" wheel or taller? Are you going to have any offset? If so, which way?
Definitely one of the toughest and most stressful decisions I made on my car. And typically, when you order, that's that. They either fit or they don't, either way they are your wheels now. Tends to be best to err on the side of caution unless you don't mind taking the chance of having some wheels sitting in the corner of your garage that don't fit squat. I know that's probably not much help but my advice is: Find a car like yours that has a setup you like and know will fit, then go with that.
With the offset shackles I fit a 15x10 rear, currently has 295/50, but I know with a set of ralley wheels my brother on his 73 charger fit a 305 in stock wheel wells, just changed the offset a bit. I don't remember what they went with but it can be done
