ive bought a couple new 71-74 charger headlight switches and non of them work like the originals. In order to turn the dome light on, I have to pull the switch out to turn the park lights on before the switch will let me turn the dome light on. Anyone else notice this annoyance? The originals would let you turn it on without any of the car lights on.

Are you saying that the knob will not turn all the way counterclockwise unless you pull it out one click, or that you CAN turn it counterclockwise but the dome light won't come on until you pull out one click?
Also, the switch case needs to be grounded for the dome light to work correctly.

Yes the new switches being sold will not allow you to turn them counterclockwise unless they are pulled out 1 click, which is the park light position

I never have had that problem. I run a Non american made ( can't say where was made ) replacement switch once and worked nice. However I fixed the original one and reinstalled just for originality. Dimmer rheostat spring on mine was loosen and found a replacement switch which the ceramic piece was exact to the original so remove it from the new one and installed on the original one on my car. Is the one still on my car.
