Trying to locate some "brite blue" sail panels for my 71 Charger. The only "reproduction" panels I have been able to locate are cloth. Most every 71 I have seen has the hard plastic sail panels? Anyone used the cloth reproduction panels? Did they come with some sort of backer board?

I have a set of black panels you could paint, but they are for an SE Charger that has the curved front to the panels and won't work on a non-SE Charger or roadrunner.

what year SE Charger you meant ? just 72s are diff... 71 SEs are the same then 71 and 72s hardtops and coupes

talking about those "repros" I think thats not more than an ATTEMP to make something to fit in there, to at least not get an empty space there. If you ask me, you can make it by your own at home

it looks Fran Mitchel could get both sides in blue by his description

Okay I will see how well the hard plastic ones paint. I bought a set of black ones a few months ago. If they do not turn out well, I will go with new cloth/backer board panels.

Does anyone have a picture of a car with the cloth sail panels installed? Do they need any additional trim (vs hard plastic) or different mounting hardware?

I know Classic Industry sells both.

Both SSPs I have had all have the fabric over a hardboard backer board.

Can you please post a picture of those? I would like to see if I will need any additional items besides the backer board and the fabric? Unless there is a curve in the front of the backer boards, I would think there would have to be some sort of trim covering the area where the quarter glass meets the C-pillar?

No problem.

I'll get a picture of what is left of the ones out in the car. My other ones are in storage. I'll try to snag them tomorrow while it's still light out.

Here is a pic from my 72 SSP which has the same quarter glass as the 73/4 Charger non-SE but not the same as 71/2 Chargers. All the 71/2 Chargers that I've owned all had plastic sail panel covers. Everything from baseline WL cars up to R/T and Ralleys. All my 71/2 Plymouths had cardboard and have a metal trim that goes on the front of the sail. Just parted a 73 SE that had cardboard panels but would not work on your 71.
Here is a pic of the sail in my 72 Ralley

Been a while since I've been out there. There is a lot less sail panel than I remember.

MoparMike's picture pretty much nails it.
