Has anyone used the aftermarket ramcharger hood insert kit? Anyone converted a 73 bulge hood to make a ramcharger hood?

I would think it would be a easy conversion sans the cutting and welding in the door opening. I have not seen the kit, got a link?

My 72 hood has all the mounting provisions for the air box and solenoid so it would pretty much bolt up. I am not sure if they changed the under structure for 73, been years since I had my 73 rallye.

This hood is from a 73 Charger (power bulge) and I plan to install on a 71 Charger project in the future. I am gathering parts needed and was trying to decide on using the 73 or not. I know the 71 hoods had the vents all the way across behind the bulge. This has 2 sets of vents (1 set on each side) behind the bulge.

The kit is listed on the following page.

Also would like to know what is involved in changing from a standard cluster to the round gauge cluster on a 71 Charger. I have the round gauge cluster but wondered if the dash frame and harness are the same for both clusters?

Have a picture of the under structure of the 73 hood? It might have the mount provisions like my 72 does if so it would allow you to mount the air box and mark out the opening and stud holes so the conversion would be pretty easy sans the cutting/welding.

The rallye gauge cluster will go right into your dash but the harness is different. color codes are the same but you would need a wiring diagram to match things up. There is another thread in this section on this.

I don't have a pic of it on my computer. I will get one at Christmas when I am up there at the shop. The hood that I have is just like the one in the pic below.....two sets of vents behind the power bulge area. Are the bulge dimensions the same on all 71-74 raised hoods? Just different black out designs??

The dimensions are all the same, only changes were in the air vents. The black outs were a year to year change.

C'MON guys!!!!! I just told the wife I'm not going to put a bulge hood on and BAM somebody posts a 74 with the 74 outline in a great big picture and now I'm thinking "Hey, she'll be just as happy with a card for Xmas as she would be with presents and that guy probably won't have that bulge hood I found for long, SO.......:icon_axe: And on top of that somebody says" ramcharger" in the same thread which is like adding" totally" to "naked" and now all I can think of is a power bulge ramcharger hood. To keep on topic, I once beat dimples in a $1800 oilbath aircleaner to match the dimples in a $2500 NOS one for a customer but thinking about cutting a big hole in a power bulge would make me have butterflies in my stomach... Not for the faint of heart! I did see a guy who cut his for a blower but that takes a whole lot of something else. I think I saw a whole underhood setup for a ramcharger on tonys parts recently if you need one. Pretty pricey though. Gotta go buy a card. :walk:

If I could find a correct 71 ramcharger hood or even an R/T hood, I would go that route. However I have been looking for about a year now and have not found one. I figure the only way I can get a ramcharger hood is to make one with the 73 hood that I have.

Since I'm not buying it maybe you can use it and give somebody a deal on yours. I know a real nice guy in Il. who could use it and it might even save his marriage. He would probably even go get the other hood for you and store it till you can pick it up. Food for thought.I'd suggest you jump before the scavengers get wind of this.

Perfect example.....$800 for the hood..$400 for the insert...plus shipping to Texas. I have a 73 hood and it is ready to bolt on or I can spend about $400 and buy the ramcharger insert and have it welding in and install the door. Then later buy all the undehood parts as the project gets closer.

I found a somewhat local ramcharger hood (no under hood items, just hood and ramcharger door) for $1800. The person that has it wanted me to give him $1600 and my 73 hood. I just can't see spending that.

Please remove... this is not and was not an ad. It is a question about taking a 73 hood and using an aftermarket insert to make a ramcharger style hood for a 71 Charger project! Guess it was wrong to explain why I was considering cutting a 73 hood instead of spending money?????????????????

Sorry, was not thinking. Should have pm'd posting. Will not happen again. Ever. Was all for nothing anyways. I have edited post and walk away shamed. Please resume initial thread and placement.

The original question.....anyone used a 73 hood with the aftermarket insert to make a ramcharger hood??

Cant answer that question but wouldnt think it would be a big deal . I bought a original 71 ram charger hood and have about 80% of the under side parts and still probably have to spend around $1200.00 on buying the 20% of stuff I dont have and the air cleaner base . I thought I got a good deal I spent $1350.00 on the hood with 80% of the parts but off a money desperate man . These hoods are expensive ...... usely worth around $3500 with all parts . My hood is naked and just primed at this point but could take some detailed pics of the door opening if it would help you . Im installing mine on a 74 project .

Pics of the hood would be good. I haven't seen many detail pics of these hoods.

I have a 71 Charger RT Hood -and most of the underhood stuff - I am in North Texas as well
