72 Charger - Battery Cut Off/Kill Switch

I would like to install a cutoff switch for track or whatever that will cut both the battery and alternator. This would be for use while the car is running. Was wondering if any one has suggestions on model and install location.

Next I would like to put a kill switch in to help prevent theft if possible.

Appreciate the help!
 
Some racing associations have specific locations and ways to mark what the switch does.
 
Why do you want to disconnect the battery while the car is running?
 
For me, it would be when I am upside down and the fool thing is still running.
 
See @greycharger post in the "demon burns down" thread. His recommended at the bottom from pegusus. It shuts off tbe battery and alternator and a protection for tbe alternator.
I'd just send you direct....if i knew how. Lol.
 
I got my switch at a tractor supply store. It was fairly cheap as I remember.

Yeah that sold me on installing a cutoff switch too lol
 
I can’t speak for other organizations, however the NHRA requires that all “kill switches” now be push off. As I understand it a simple throw switch like sold at TSC or other places is no longer acceptable.

I bought a flaming river brand one and I will say it is awesome, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t spend the coin on a good switch. I spent did things and money on crap at 20 years ago that 45 year old me cusses 25 year old me all the time for.

Morals of the story.....
Buy once cry once

I think, but don't know for sure, that rule is for push/pull swiches, so that push is always off. I think the lever switches are still legal. I sure see a lot of them at my local track.

Edit; if i'm wrong , it wont be the first time today!

I just got the NHRA rule book in the mail yesterday so I’ll peruse it and see if I can determine the rule for sure. I replaced a lever switch with a push/pull because I was told “all kill switches must be push off”

Possible that is bad info, however my switch was 20 years old and had been exposed to the elements and was in need of being replaced.
 
I have one car with a push/pull design, and another with an old lever style, where access is seriously poor. I wouldn't be happy if i have to replace it for no reason other than a new rule.

Really like that flaming river switch, by the way.
 
How do you guys just cut the battery and try to kill the power to stop the engine with that two post kill switch if while the engine keeps running, alt is retrofeeding itself allong with ign system?

Wouldn't need a 4 post switch to cut ign1 at the same time?

Unless you are using a relay to feed and cut ign system too?
 
When I shut off my switch it kills battery and alternator power.

The info I received was apparently incorrect, lever switches are still legal.
