this is the original heater valve shutoff for my 72 se. .it cleaned up decent but doesn't shut the water flow off completely. .can you even buy these anymore or what are you guys using for correct resto heater valves? Maybe these never shut the water off completely when new?

That is an aftermarket unit. Commonly available. If you want an original type check with Classic Auto Air or Vintage Air.

For those who care, ive done a bunch of research. .the heater valve I have pictured in my opening post is the original factory valve for the 72 charger. It is not an aftermarket valve. These valves are about impossible to find and buy in nice condition. .so I'm going to clean up my original and use a small inline shutoff to keep water from going thru the system

Close to $100 when they do come up or $100 to rebuild yours.

I'm using a motor home part for mine- $12.

Guess it depends if you want to retain an exact OEM appearance or not, there are a lot of different units out there that will work. They don't make the proper unit for my 1st Gen cummins truck so I had to do a bunch of searching and found one from an early 90's ford ranger that looked close to the OEM unit and functioned properly with the vacuum source.

That top one is one like mine. .ive seen that one in my searching. .the bottom one would probably bolt up to my factory inner fender mounting piece. .my original is decent except it doesn't completely shut off the flow of water. .i found a small inconspicuous inline shutoff valve im going to use so I can clean up my original and keep it in its place

I did not know the '72 was cable operated? My '71 is vacuum controlled.

AC or non AC is different.

AC is vac, non is cable.

You'd think it would be the other way around.

Iowa, huh?

Even in FL if you drive at all in the cooler months, getting out and opening the hood to adjust the manual valve for heat SUCKS.

That's what i was doing until I couldn't take it any more and found the RV valve.

Took a little work to get it to work with the factory cable, but was worth it.

72 with A/C is definitely cable operated.
