Hi Everyone -

I'm new to this forum and have plenty of questions. I've been reading up as much as possible around the forum, but I really need some help from folks who know these cars.

I have a 1972 Dodge Coronet Specs below:

  • 318ci 4barrel 500cfm edelbrock
  • Auto w/ shift kit, Hurst shifter on floor
  • Rearend - I have no clue?
  • Stock Suspension
  • Front Disc, Rear Drums
The motor and the tranny have been re built, new shift kit etc.

My questions are really aimed at suspension.

What are my options for track pads, not auto cross pads? Need high temp stuff for stock calipers. I found Hawk makes HPS, but didnt find anything else.

Also, since we will tracking the car on stock suspension. What do you recommend to make it a little more responsive than stock?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks!
GN

Check with whom ever's sanctioning body your planning on running rules/regulations book, for what is & isn't allowed in your cars/class on track day, some types of mods mentioned, will move you to a different type class/category "I'm sure", good luck with your build... GOOGLE Search is you friend...

Dang, Bud pretty much covered the mods. I would think that pad choices would be very limited for the 70/1 BE disc.
Your Coronet probably has a 8.25 rear end.

Thanks Budnicks.

The class I'm entering is really limited to stock suspension components.

Aftermarket components aside from PADS and tires is the only thing we are allowed.

The car will be gutted for the most part. It will also have a 6 point cage and we are planning on using subframes left over from my buddies charger.

At this time the car does not have either a Front or Rear Swaybar, my buddy has a 69 charger rear swaybar we will probably end up using...maybe I can find a used Front in the for sale section.

Budget is limited and therefore big items like drop spindles and better steering box are not an option.

So....I'm guessing just poly bushing upgrades with new upper and lower ball joints.

Really need HI Temp Track pads, but the HPS will have to do if nothing is found.

Quick question on the calipers.

Is there any other stock caliper that fits on these with no mods? As an example calipers from a newer dodge?

Thanks for the responds!

P.S.

We changing out rear end fluid tomorrow, so I'll finally know whats the final drive :p

I'm guessing 3.23s....but we'll know for sure!

There are a ton of tech articles on brakes, here in FBBO, Mopar Action Mag. tech, MYMopar.com tech, Mopar Muscle Mag. forum & tech, Moparts forum & many others for that matter... use Google search... I personally use allot of aftermarket stuff, I'm not a big opponent of old style out dated stock stuff, maybe someone else on here can give you a better example on the stock style brakes... "Sway Bars & larger torsion bars {like big block sway bars & torsion bars will be larger than a small block set-up, especially with a small block equipped car} they are a must for better handling"... Can you use offset upper control arm bushings to get more caster & camber ?, Can you use or drilled &/or slotted your rotors for better cooling & braking ? Like SSBC or any other brand, stock style but with drilled & slotted rotors... How about shocks what's the rules on them ?, Can you lower the car ?, Just my curiosity.... You don't have to spend a ton of cash, to get better handling, you just need to spend it in the right places, almost any of the updates mentioned will help, especially compared to the stock set-up... Good luck..
