Hi all,

i am looking to update the fuel system in my 72 road runner from 5/15" to 3/8" and put in as new sending unit!

Any tricks to removing the old tank or any things to look out for as I do it?

Also how difficult is it to change out the sending unit? Does the tank need to be dropped to change it?

Thanks all!

Any tips would be great!

Mikey

It's easier to pull the sending unit with the tank dropped and that's the way I've always done it. The sending unit is held in place with a twist retainer. They make a special tool to remove them but I've always used a hammer or ratchet to bang on it an turn it. If you tried to pull while mounted I would just make sure the level of fuel is below the fuel sending unit hole. The tank is mounted with 2 nuts on jbolts that tighten the fuel tank straps. Disconnect the fuel line at the sender and the gauge wire at the sensor and the 4 vent tubes @ the tank and it just drop right on down. Depending on if there is fuel in it you might want to have a floor jack under it.
