Here we go, first post of the project. I am looking to document and seek opinions and expertise as I go along.

The car is a 72 Satellite 318. The goal is a reliable, full interior, high powered street car with good drivability and handling.

So far I have decided on the following:

RMS K-member and Street Lynx
Airbags
Holley Dominator EFI
Turbocharged
4L80E
Dana 60
All chrome will be black with black wheels

I need opinions on the Following:

Aluminum low deck stroker vs Gen III hemi...Goal is 4 digit horsepower!
Tasteful cage ideas that is not too intrusive
Max tire size
Meanest looking vinyl decals:

What do you like so far, top or bottom?

Top, without the fender stripes....and body colored bumpers and trim. Maybe black-out the center area of the hood. 2-cents. It looks like a early 70's stock-car.

Sounds cool, can't wait to see you through the process.

I love that car, it is my desktop background. I considered doing a petty tribute car. I need to decide on an engine so I can do the CID on the hood.

Agree Top with body colour bumpers. I don't mind the hood stripes

As far as low deck vs. Gen III both can handle the 4 digit hp under boost. I think the low deck can be done cheaper but either is a great option

Thanks for the input, I have been leaning toward Low deck, especially when I watch NRE videos on youtube. Body color bumpers was my first thought, and they always look great. I have been seeing a lot of good looking black bumper cars, but this car has a more distinct bumper design. I may have to play with it since they are still chrome.

Those look great in body color, especially if you get the bumpers to fit right. My opinion. Sounds like the making of a cool car.

I like everything you have planned, but i like chrome on a car.Everthing today is color of the car.But thats me..Cool car and you know it will get the thumbs up going down the road.

I personally am doing a gen3 that is boosted and will be over 1000. If I could turn back time I would shoot for 6-700. 4 digit horsepower levels equal lots of money. Everything down line from that crank gets grossly expensive.

If you're set on 1000hp the gen3 hemi is a better bottom end, and will make better hp per cubic inch because it's more efficient. I am not sure if an aluminum low deck could be built that much cheaper, at 1000hp. By the time I can drive down the road reliably (within reason) I'll have 40k - 45k into my engine, trans and rear end.

With all that being said, I sure hope you still want to build a 1000hp car, it would be a very cool build.

Sounds like your car will be a beast! What is the make up of your gen 3? I am definitely shooting for 1KHP, I think a big car like this needs it. I am in the 500-600 WHP range in my Dart and it has been amazingly reliable and driveable. I hope to keep those characteristics on a bigger scale.

Do you have a build thread for your project?

I have a very similar build in process. 71 went with alterkation and street lynx too. having a 540 aluminum block with turbo being build now my jim laroy. should be a 4 digit hp car. car has a cage if you want pics.

I would love to see your car, and would like to know more about your engine. Sounds cool!

I like to top version of the car. To me, 4 digit horsepower and "street car" do not really go together, but hey, I am just an old fart, so what do I know?????

Thanks for the input, I am leaning top right now also. My high horsepower goal may change, or just be detuned for street use, but the car has to be reliable and driveable with loads of power. With modern turbo, tuning and E85 it is much easier to make a powerful machine with great street manners. Turbo cams and lower compression are very driveable. This will be my third and most powerful turbo muscle car.

Sounds like an interesting build

Of those two I like the top one best
bottom one looks like a E-Body too much to me

albeit I'm not a big fan of the big PLYMOUTH stickers on the quarters
except on Superbirds, but that's just me
I do like the silver & black paint scheme too

Either engine you choose, can do what you want to do...
I do like the Low-deck/B all Alum idea too...
A Gen 3 Hemi could be cool too...
Either Turbo'd & 1000+hp would be a pretty lofty goal for the street,
but it can be tame enough, if done right too...

To quote the old show "Six Million Dollar Man"
"We have the technology today, we can build them better & stronger"

good luck & Happy Moparing

here is a great build thread from the turbo forums (on the hall of fame build board), mopar, big block single turbo, E85
http://www.theturboforums.com/threads/322032-70-Challenger-572-c-i-106mm-turbo

I think E85 is a great idea I just cant get it reliably in montana. as an FYI the ethanol will change significantly throughout the year, especially in Denver with the change of weather

Great link, thanks. Denver is a great area for E85, lots of stations. The mixture ranges from E70 to E90. In my Dart I watch the AFR's change with every fill up so I plan on using a flex sensor to dial in the tune on this build.
