what is this thing? and should the yellow wire plug into something???

Looks like the seat belt buzzer to me, but I might be wrong.

looks like the time delay for the ign.switch lighting ?

not a seatbelt buzzer.. i dont know what it is, my 89 d100 has the same part.. just trying to find out what is it, i have unplugged it, cant find anything that stops working

Yep, it's actually the capacitor for the courtesy light in the steering column for your ignition switch. I was just rewiring my dash and got that situated too! It plugs into a aux power which is usually a yellow connector with three connections on it.

ok, i know the connector your talking about, does it go in a particular plug on it?? ( 3 openings)

That ignition light timer will get very hot if you have the door open for along time with the battery connected.

It is the time delay relay for the ignition switch lamp, is not a capacitor or are there capacitors involved, simple heated bi-metal timer.
key switch lamp timer/relay harness;

so i can plug it into any of the 3 openings in the yellow conector

I've been trying to figure out the same on my 71 charger. So does the steering column have a replaceable bulb??
