I have a true 1970 727 6pk trans, PK3410672, that I bought years ago for a project. Doesn't look like I will end up using it after all and was wondering what the current value for this type of trans is? Seller stated at the time that the trans had been rebuilt and unused. It is clean with all new gaskets and seals. Thxs

Yes, The VIN is 0A157316

I thought...maybe wrong here, that the 6pak trans was built the same as a Hemi trans in that they had the special front pump and front clutch??? If that's true, then you have some very hard to find original parts, as well as a desirable trans case for the numbers alone.

Double wrapped Hemi band and a extra clutch in the packs? Did they use 4 gear planetaries?

In 71 they started building the 727's with better parts even though the engines were being de-tuned!
The fact that it's an original 6-pak trans is worth a little more Moola, but there are alot better parts
out there coming from the 48re transmissions and aftermarket pistons. Who knows, you might be able
to find the original car!

Trans was programmed differently ... more clutches and such... what is the casting dates and part number on the case? the PK number. I think you’re correct mike on the planetaries as well...

The "672" Hemi/440-6 trans has the different pump, front clutch and a few other things and is worth more to the right person. You can build a 727 to handle more power, with off the shelf parts these days, much easier, and cheaper, than finding a 672 trans. Still, a good trans to have. Now if that trans had the right VIN, I'd be on my way to pick it up!

Would this also apply to a small block trans for a 6 pack?

I do know that 440 mag/4bbl apps such as my '68 came with 4 pinion planetaries. 6 pack/hemi units I've done had a wider front clutch that could hold 6 thin clutches as well as having the very rare wider band to match the drum, and the same 4 pin planetaries as the magnum versions.

I didn't think the 6 Pak cars had the Hemi 727. I sure may be wrong.

The OEM Hemi 727's had 5 clutches & 12 springs in the drum. It used the wider band and both front & rear planetaries were 4 pinion. The front pump also was machined with a special baffle to accommodate the wider drum.

Yes, Hemi and 440-6 got the same transmission.

Hemi and 440-6 also shared the same 12 month/12000 mile powertrain warranty. All of the other engine packages had a 5 year/50000 mile powertrain warranty.

Thanks for the feedback. Here's a couple pics of the part number and updated VIN pic. Any ideas on a current value?

HP 440s also shared the same not just the 440+6 and hemi.. I agree you can build a stouter one with off the shelf parts but for the numbers guys that like em old and stock it’s a nice score. Nice item!

No the HP 440 727's were not the same as the Hemi version. Most of the internal parts were the same. The Hemi style had the wide 5 disc front clutch drum & wide band. The HP 440's had the standard 4 disc front drum & band.

If it were me, i'd be looking for $1500 plus...... I've seen them for $1,200 plus and nothing gets any cheaper lol.

Like I said, may be wrong.

Per my Dave Wise book a 670 is HP440, 672 is 6pack and Hemi. My bad .
The 2981 is your build date.
The next group is your production number for the day per my book.
Again I made a oops I was thinking 670 was the same..Regardless check for the car and see if it’s still alive! It’s a nice score!
